Groupwise 7 webmail will not work after power outtage.

vmware server. Netware 6.5, Groupwise 7 install. Everything was working properly until a power outage that lasted longer than the UPS. The groupwise desktop client can still connect and so can thunderbird or iphone via pop. Webmail is busted. I searched the error that the web page gives and tried the tomcat related fix for that, but to no avail.

I do notice that when the Groupwise 7 server is starting, it loops through a certain series of files, trying to start them, but apparently it is having problems doing so. The nlm that stands out is sccex.nlm.  It cannot seem to get it started.

I will be happy to provide more info if needed, just tell me what is needed.

It sounds like perhaps a necessary file has been corrupted. This can happen if the file is in use when the server/app suddenly fails or is turned off.
Do you have a back up?

No backups! We are currently implementing a BackupExec solution but that doesn't help in this situation. Question: Does Novell have anything on the install disc that would do a modify/repair of corrupt of missing files? If not, what would be the next step?

Yikes. Not that I know of, you'd have to do a complete install if I remember correctly. They don't have a repair feature like Windows.

I would back up what you have ASAP in terms of data, and then see if either Novel, or someone who utilizes the same server solution can get you a copy of the affected files.

    Assisted Solution

If the server had been up for a while before the unplanned outage, the SSL certificates may have expired, and now some things won't start without new certs. Use PKIDIAG to check for and correct certificate errors.  Then use TCKEYGEN to recreate the cert material needed by Tomcat (which is crucial for WebMail to work properly).  The TID here may be of some help, as well:

Can try to start the NLM's and NCF's that are called from autoexec.ncf by hand? Print out Autoexec.ncf, and all other NCF files that are called from that and execute each line by hand. Make a note of all errors that you see while loading an NLM, especially with the loading of the Webaccess components (gwenn.. gwinter.nlm etc).

Novell actually FIXES things instead of reinstalling.

Check your logger screen - scroll up to see if you can find load errors.

Run "strtweb" after the server is completely up and check the logger screen scrollback to see what the errors are. Make sure that the web server is loaded (should be a screen saying something like "apache waiting").

When you hit Webaccess from a browser - what is it saying? How far do you get? Does the initial screen come up? Does the login screen come up? If the login screen comes up, do you get a 500 error?

You CAN also just run the webaccess installation again .. it's fast and easy, takes about 10 minutes or so and refreshes all the files. In most cases though, it's probably not necessary. And it won't fix the problem if certificates are the issue.

I am going to award points to BudDurland as his information led me to what ultimately was the fix. The fix was using tc4keyst.exe from I followed the instructions on TID# 10087091

    This fixed my problem completely.
