re-installing dell dimension e520

I have a dell dimension e520.  The machine got a virus and so I wiped the h/drive with a utility, reformatted it and am trying to re-install windows xp pro from a cd.

Every time I run the set up program the from windows xp cd it loads into Windows and then blue screens on me.  Ihave reset the bios to factory defaults and still the same problem occurs.  I had this happen one before and found there was a hard disk setting that I changed and it fixed it.

any ideas?

Some new virus on windows do a not visible-phantom partition/directory. I recommend you to do a clean install of any linux flavor. On installation setup you will be able to see such partition and delete it. If you have more hd on system, please finish linux installation, thus as root you will be able to delete all virus related files.

I do this process with Suse and I was able to clean all the computer, once finish cleanup you can decide to continue on Linux o reinstall windows there :D

I actually wiped the hard disk with active boot - which is a OS on a USB stick with a whole bunch of different utilities to clean a disk with.   I killed the entire disk a reformatted it.

Check in the BIOS Setup for an option to change the HDD settings in SATA model to 'non-RAID'
