Security Needed To Access Schema Tables in SQL Server

What security is needed to provide read access to the information in the schema tables for SQL Server?  I am currently using db_denydatawriter, but anytime I query these tables, I receive an empty result set.

    mjs082969,, you may also wanna give the user the db_datareader role.
