Hello experts

My father-in-law got a laptop for Christmas and is having a ball with it.  Before this he was using Web-TV (now MSN-TV).  He has lots of email and addresses that he would like to import to his PC and then get rid of MSNTV.

Is there a way to do this?  MSNTV support is no help at all.

Thanks

Hi your question is confusing, so a late response!

Anyway, what is MSNTV? Is it a webservice you use on the internet of some sort. Please clarify or post a link to the website.

Was he using a different PC and you want to transfer the contents to the laptop now.

How did he get to the email? Using outlook or via the Internet Explorer / Firefox / Opera?

MSNTV is what used to be Web-TV.  It's a service that uses a specific box to connect to the net.  It's viewed on the user's television screen.  There is no hard drive in the unit.  It uses a dialup connection, although the newer units now support a broadband connection.

Email is web based.  Web-TV provided email service so his email address is <username>@webtv.net.

If email is webbased then there is no additional configuration required from your part on the new laptop.

Just get the laptop connected to the internet and you are all set up. As the emails and address book live on the server out there on the internet.

So it turns out nothing to be done on your part except getting the laptop configured to access the internet.

Anything else please feel free to ask.

I think you may have misread the question.

I'm asking for help with Web-TV (now called MSNTV).  I need that help because (so far s I can tell) MSNTV is only accessible using the specific machine purchased for that specific purpose.

His new laptop is configured for internet usage and he is surfing and having a blast.  But there doesnt seem to be a way to access his account except from the WebTV machine.  I'm looking for a way around that shortcoming so we can get his email and addresses moved to his new setup.

If you know anything about Web-TV, I will be really grateful for any suggestions.  If not, thanks anyway.

Sorry you guessed right. I did miss your question as I could not get it right from the first place itself.

You did not post any link to their site as per my previous post.

Apologies that I took your time and could not help any further.

I think you still misunderstand.  We arenlt trying to configure the MSNTV machine for broadband.  We want to connect to MSNTV witht he laptop so he could gather his old emails, his address book and the few files he had saved, move all that stuff to his laptop and stop using (and paying for) MSNTV.

However, my resourceful father-in-law figured it out on his own.  He emialed everything to himself.  So his issue is self-resolved.

I'm going to close the questgion and have the points refunded.

Thanks, anyway, for your concern and attempts.
