Cost effective way to send SMS

I am wondering what are the best options for sending over 1000 sms messages EVERY DAY from a linux server are.
The messages will be sent through the US and Canada to phones on all different providers. When sending the SMS I am unaware of what carrier the receiving phone is using.
I'd prefer to have it sent using a short code phone number, but not necessary.
What is the most cost effective way to send these messages?
I'm looking for opinions on a sms gateway. Or ever a way to send them directly from my server.
Cost and reliability are a concern.
I'm also not willing use a host that attaches advertisements onto the text msg to reduce the cost.

Speak directly to the major carriers.

You can cut a deal with them if its legit.
