Connection to SQL Database on SBS 2008 server

I am trying to setup a MSDE 2005 database for a blackberry server install.  I have installed the MSDE 2005 database  - BLACKBERRY -  and have enabled both named pipes and tcp/ip.   I enabled TCP/IP on local IPV4 -  I cannot connect to the database either locally on the host via port 1433 or from a remote client - i have checked that remote clients are enabled.  I have also explicitly added 1433 to the firewall allowed ports.   I have also tested with the firewall turned off but cannot connect.   Any help is appreciated.

Are you using user/password or Windows Authentication to conenct ?
Can you attach the exact error ?

    Accepted Solution

I abandoned using 2005 MSDE and used another server wth SQL on it.   MSDE doesn't allow remote connections -  i tried to enable them but didn't get anywhere.   Unfortunately i was under a time crunch so didn't have enough time to troubleshoot.
