Kvm will not pass sound from a guest to the host.

I am running redhat 5.4 and kvm.  I do like it and it works.

This is my main machine and netflix does not work on linux so I run xp in a kvm virtual machine.

If I run audio on the host machine it does play out my headphones.  If I run netflix on the guest, I still do not get sound to my headphones.

I tried to install a fresh redhat 5.4 virtual machine and still I do not get sound on the headphones.

Yes I did add the sound card on the virtual machine.  I do get indication of sound on the vurtual machine if there is a visual display of the sound with xmms or the microsoft player.

This could be caused by SELinux preventing sound sharing.
Have you tried with Selinux disabled? (http://www.crypt.gen.nz/selinux/disable_selinux.html)

I thought of this and am not using selinux.
