Can not change birthdate in XBOX 360 live account

OK, my son is frustrated because he says he can not sign into Uplay because he is under 18.

I have no problem in having him access Uplay for awards for Avatars, backgrounds for Xbox 360 and extra weapons for Assassins Cread but he is blocked out due to age

1.  Is there anything in Uplay that requires the 18 year old rating?  In other words, what content are they protecting us from on Uplay.

2. Is there any way that I can change his birthdate to 18 for access.  If so, what is the downside of doing this.  I have already gone into parental controls and set them to the desired settings.  It looks like I need to change his birthdate for Uplay to work but that does not seem possible.

3.  I think he said he may have the same problem with NetFlix although I definitely need an age filter on that.

Log into his live acount using an online live service. i.e. hotmail and change his birthday there.
That will not work... Please note that if an account is linked to a parents account it has restrictions built into it since it is a child account....  Please note... AFTER YOU TURN 18, you can promote your child to an adult account... here is the following from the Xbox site...  Promoting the account will remove the restrictions and you will have to register a credit card to the account since it is no longer linked to the parents account.  here is the info on promoting an account after they are 18:

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/xboxlive/myaccount/managemyaccount/promotechildaccount.aspx

Promote Child Account
If you were not yet 18 when you signed up for Xbox LIVE, your account was designated a child account. Child accounts are tied to a parent's Windows Live ID to control Family Settings, and some features of Xbox LIVE are restricted.

After you turn 18, you can promote your child account to an adult account. This promotion removes the Family Settings and Xbox LIVE restrictions. To promote your account, you must agree again to the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and marketing opt-ins. If a parent's credit card was on your account, you must also enter a new one to replace it.

To promote your child account to adult status
Go to My Xbox and open your profile.
Select Manage Account.
Select Promote Child Account.
Note
This option is available on child accounts only after the owner has reached the age of adulthood.
Follow the steps to promote your child account.

THanks for the info.  I had seen that on the Xbox site.  My son will not be 18 for 5 years.
Hi txmacman,

Contact xbox support via their phone number and ask for assistance. Inform them that a mistake was made during the creation of their account.

Contact details for US account holders are here: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/contact.aspx
This will result in the same thing as creating a new account, they will not be able to upgrade the account to have full rights until the user turns 18... They can however close your account and refund you the difference if there was a problem in creation to create a new account... They may have a time frame on a refund...

Basically if you decide you want an account for you son, and your wanting him to be listed as over 18 then it will no longer be connected to your account.  This will mean you will have you pay for two accounts, your own and his, and you will no longer have parental controls...
