office for mac wont open on 10.5 tiger

we installed a new hard drive on a mac g4 which has tiger 10.5,  then we installed office for mac 2004.

when you open office it stays on the screen optimizing font performance which is the first screen that comes up before word open.  the wheel spins and  never opens up office.

    Try deleting the system font cache as per this article
