Access approval for phpBB3 forum

My phpBB3 forum has been running for about a year with no problems, to register to the forum I would just give the url to an individual to register and they would have access. The problem I am having now is that people are registering on the forum that should not be there. Now do I set it up that when someone new registers they have to be approved first before access is granted?
