i would start by saying if it worked and now it doesnt, and only not on some machines.  I would look to see if any new patches or updates took place on the machines it doesnt work on.  is it an issue with users or computers?

I would also say maybe something changed in the embedded file but since its not bad across the board then thats not it.

it is an issue with computers as far as i can understand.the patches or updates are applied uniformly on all machines across the company and as confirmed with our network team no such patched have been installed.could it be something with office 2007?

Have you tried reinstalling office2007 on the machines where it doesn't work? That did the trick for me in 90% of the cases.
