Cannot access roles and features in Server Manager

Hi

I cannot view Roles and Features in Server Manager on my Server 2008 box. The error is:

Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: The service cannot be started, either because it is disbaled or because it has no enabled devices assicaited with it (Exception from HResult: 0x80070422)

I have looked at my services - but don't know what service to look for, everything 8seems8 to be in order.

Screenshot and error log entry below.

I had a similar problem with Server Manager on one of my servers. Take a look at this blog post, it describes how to use the System Update Readiness Tool to check Server Manager.

Once that has run, check the CheckSUR.log file as described. If you're missing packages the fun begins, because you have to manually replace them (tends to involve a lot of manual extraction from specific KB packages).

AH HAH - Nice one. Hasn't fixed the Server Manager - but is letting me do the readiness thing - will let you know - thanks
Once I had both the Windows Update and Windows Module Installer services enabled and started - and had run the Readiness patch, it worked! For some reason Server Manager wants Windows Update - go figure - would be so much easier if they said:

The Windows Update service cannot be started

:)

Many Thanks

Fun :) At least it works now :)

I just had to start the Windows Module Installer service, and set it to auto startup to fix the issue
