Free/Busy Problem

I have a bunch of users complaining that when they look at other users availibility they are seeing them completely booked for months.

When we open the booked users mailbox using Outlook and the cleanfreebusy switch, the problem goes away.

Is there a way to fix this for all users at once without opening everyones mailbox with the cleanfreebusy switch?

We have Exchange 2007.  Users are a mix of Outlook 2003, 2007 and Entourage (Mac).

Try Running outlook in online mode.

The tool updatefb.exe will help you to do exactly what /cleanfreebusy does however this tool will do it for all the users in one go.

I would recommend to keep guidgen as the last resort. Guidgen is mostly used when you do not see any information in schedule free/busy and hashes are been displayed. Or else in cases where the FB Information is not replicated across from an old exchange server to a newly migrated server.

Its used to re-populate the FB Information from Outlook client, in this case the inforamtion is already present and /cleanfreebusy helps to resolve the issue for him, so he can use updatefb.exe which will do exactly what /cleanfreebusy does on a single client for all clients in one go.

Only thing is to get this tool you will have to contact MS SUpport and they will give this tool to you free of cost.

I just noticed that In Outlook 2003 I see some users booked solid through the end of January and in Outlook 2007 I see everything correctly.

Do you think I should still use updatefb.exe?

Yes !!!!

It does not matter.... it wont cause any harm..

However The way outlook polls FB information varies in both versions of Outlook, Outlook 2k7 using Exchange Availability service a component which is integrated with and dependent on IIS. However Outlook 2k3 uses Public (System) Folders (Still the legacy way).

Feel free to use updatefb.exe it wont cause any harm.

Also logically thinking it seems there is some corruption issue with the FB folder in PF hence you are facing the issue only with Users on 2k3. As 2k7 uses Availability Service needlessly it does not care what the PF for FB has.

updatefb.exe targets the schedule freebusy folder inside Public Folder. Which will help you to get your issue solved.

if it was migrated environment make sure you have replicated the public folder .
and make sure legacy admin group is on the replica list of PF.

if public folder werent migrated then i think reseting system folder will be better option.

Yes.. that's true.... If it is a migrated environment the PF Content has to be migrated, however i dont think so thats the case over here as users from 2k7 are able to view the date and users using 2k3 are facing issues.

If the data was not migrated then users from 2k7 also wont be able to see it and they would see hashes.... And as /cleanfreebusy has helped to resolve the issue in that case updatefb.exe is a definate solution :)

We migrated from an Exchange 2003 server to a new Exchange 2007 server two years ago.

If you are able to view the information in that case the migration is not an issue.. If migration had been an issue you wouldn't be able to view anything, irrespective of using /cleanfreebusy.

I called Microsoft for support.  I had an unsupported configuration - Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 on VMware.

To get to a supported config, I built a new server and ended up with Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 on VMware.  

In the process of migrating everything to the new server, the problem went away.
