Looking for a file monitoring utility

Does anyone know of a good file/disk monitoring utility for Windows XP ? I would like to be able to warned of any files including their names and their locations that are being saved to disk from things like software installation, temporary browser files and user saved files.

Please let me know

Thanks

For trouble shooting problems while installing/running any application we mostly use Process Monitor from sysinternal.

Here is the link : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

Really good tool which you can see registry and disk access in real-time.

TK

Process Monitor is a superb tool, but it is focussed on real-time scanning and it will not alert you when changes occur in the filesystem.

To fulfil the requirements posted in the OP you will have to resort to some kind of advanced admin tool, like the Poweradmin suite for example. Here's their product comparison list:

LordArokh: Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded ProcessMonitor and now wish to know is it possible to filter out everything and view only newly running instances of a process ? Can this be done with ProcessMonitor ?

Yes, you can view only selected processes also.

When you launch process monitor, just right click on the process that you want to see and select,  INCLUDE.
In order to reset filter, choose filter menu and then point to reset Filter
