Exchange 2007 Transaction Log files not clearing down

Hi,

One of the drives that holds the transaction logs for Exchange 2007 isn't deleting old log files and is now fast running out of disk space  I've had a look at some forums which suggest it could be a backup issue, but the backups are running fine without any issues, but still not clearing the logs file.  We use Arcserve for backups and CA reckon its an issue with the Exchange server.

I've also tried to run the eseutil /ml command to check the integrity of the logs files but I get the following error message:

ERROR: Cannot open log file (G:\Exchsrvr\StorageGroup03\logfilename) . Error -1032.

Operation terminated with error -1032 (JET_errFileAccessDenied, Cannot access file, the file is
locked or in use) after 10.78 seconds.

I have run this command with the storage group offline and online, but still get the same error message.

Help would be greatly appreciated

thanks.

2 things to try.  Make sure that any virus software you have installed has the Exchange folder as an exception so it's not being scanned.

Also can you try and take a FULL backup of the Exchange Information Store using Windows Backup.

It must be a FULL Information Store backup not a mailbox backup or a differential for the log files to get flushed.

On what windows are you running Exchange 2007 ? how are you backing it up with what utility?
as demazter said to clean the log files you should be using a FULL backup

Few things
1. It should be Full Online "Information Store Bakup".
2. The eseutil commands would error as it can only run when the Stores are dismounted.
3. Assuming every SG has one Store and they are backed-up, if a SG has multiple Store all need to be backed and none should be Dismounted.
4. There isnt any LCR or SCR not functioning. this can also lead to not deleting of Transaction logs.

Thanks for the information guys, I'll try the Full Backup, but before I do, Rancy, I've just checked the SCR and the StorageGroupCopyStatus says that it is disabled, so when I try to enable it I get an error saying that Continuous replication is not configured.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but this should be running all the time right?

Do you have a standby recovery server?
If not then no it doesnt need to be enabled.

If its already configured just try running 2 commands on the Production "Source" server
Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus
Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus -StandbyMachine "Target Server Name"
