Convert extensions exe to vbs?

A while ago I found a small light free tool that converted *.exe to *.vbs or whatever you wanted. I used this in order to run certain executables within group policy since it only accepts vbs and bat.

Note: this is not converting the code. It's converting the extension which is not the same as simply renaming it.

I cannnot find that tool for the life of me. Anybody know?.

Just a comment. It would be very unlikely that you can find free tool to conver *.exe to *vbs as *.exe is a complied program non text file. But the other way around is more likely and I'm sure you can find tons of it as the *.vbs or *.bat are plain text file that is readable and any simpler complier can convert them to a program file like *.exe.

or more simply... just put the exe name in a text file cal it whatever.cmd or bat and run that...

Same goes for VBS you can have that run an external app..

I said it didn't convert the code. Maybe it was bat to vbs I forgot but the tool was able to change multiple extensions.

Blocked by websense

Dang I got the tool from here like 4 years ago but under a different name so I can't search for it.

I don't think people are understanding what I'm asking. It was a tool that simply changed the extension without affecting how it works. So you can change an EXE to VBS but double click on it and still run it as if it where a VBS. Understand?

Oops I mean doublecllick and run it as if it were still an exe and not a VBS. Confused yet? hehe

You can't.  If it has an exe extension then it is handled by the exe handler.  If it has vbs it is handled by vbs handler....

except you could change the vbs handler to run a vbs file like exe file.

except that would be on the machines that run it - I presume you are talking here of startup or login scripts?

I ask again though, why?!

If you want to install something use group policy to do it.  If you want to run it from a startup script then run a bat or vbs that calls your exe.
