WSS 3.0 Sharepoint broken web part needs removal

We added a web part in WSS 3.0 that has an issue. When the site is opened it dominates the processor and IE. I cannot get into edit mode to remove the web part. How do I remove it? I do have a backup of the server that was taken before it was created. Is there another way to remove this besides a restore?

    Accepted Solution

    Try this out.

Add the following to the end of the URL where this webpart exist - ?contents=1

    So for instance - http://server/site/sitename/default.aspx?contents=1

Select the webpart and delete it.
