Event driven subreport?

Hi,

I have a report in SS reporting services 2005 and a subreport.
The main report has ID column which I want to make it clickable and when it is clicked I want to show that ID's record in the subreport.
How can I do this?

The main reports has lots of records and the record has note field but it is really hard to include that note section in nice table format.
So only when that record has been clicked on, the note of that record shows up in the subreport.

Is this doable?
Thanks much.

Are you really meaning a subreport or are you wanting the ID to be a link to a second report with the note section details?  Subreports are generated at the same time as the main report and can be passed a value to use, but that must be report parameter based and is not "Interactive".

I Just want to display subreport(or detail section) of that record when I click that record from the main report.

In the main report, I have a table displaying records but the note has a lot of text and messing up the format.
So I don't know to display the note in the main but only display the note below the main report when the record is clicked or ID of that record is clicked.
Does that make any sense?

I tried the jump to link(??) and it jumps to the subreport away from the main report.
I want the subreport( or note section) to be show below the main report.

Yeah, I know what you want it to do, it is just that RS does not work that way by defalut.  Trying to figure a way to get around its limitations.  Is the report pretty fast, ie, if it had to refresh the whole report with the new note details below it, would that be acceptable?

The report comes up fast.
Do I need to use the show/hide visiability property??

That might work if you have the subreport for each ID between each line and use a link on the ID as the key to show/hide.  I have not tried it that way, but it might be worth a go.

You could also try using the JUMP TO REPORT settings if you right click on the field and hit properties there is a navigation section.

I do this sometimes when I have a summary & detail report for the same information.

Can you show a picture of what the report looks like (layout) so we can see what you are working with?

I just used visibility property to show and hide in the table and didn't use the subreport.

Jump to report goes another page(report) it didn't work for me.
I wanted to have the main and subreport on the same page.
But the jump to report takes you to the another page of the subreport.
Anyway, if you know how to do the master and detail on the same report, I would be interested.
Thanks.
