Email in OWA on SBS2008 exchange goes directly to Drafts

I recently built a 2008 Small Business Server and when I set up exchange, I am having a problem.  Inbound mail is working but outgoing mail, when sending from OWA, goes right to Drafts.  In an outlook POP3 client, it gives me an error that the outgoing mail server cannot be contacted.  I have tried both ports 25 and ports 587 (TLS).  Can anyone help with outbound mail flow?  Thanks!

this is typically a backpressure algorithm thing

is it a new problem or old?

any thing in the even log ?

how much free space do you have on the server?
also make sure to update to at least sp1 rollup 9.

what service pack you have installed ?
Back pressure feature kicking in.

Check the amount of free space you have in your drives. You can disable the feature (not recommended) atleast to keep the system running.

Check http://www.howexchangeworks.com/2009/08/back-pressure-feature-in-exchange-2007.html for more info.

ASKER

This is a new server and a fresh build of SBS2008.  The server has 485gb of free space on the HD.
I do get this in the event log:

"The Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service is currently unable to contact any Hub Transport servers in the local Active Directory site. The servers may be too busy to accept new connections at this time."

The server says it has Window Server Standard FE SP2 but it is SBS2008

The transport service was not running.  I started it and it connected.
so everything is working now?
Yes, it seems to be working now. Not sure why the transport service was not running but once I started it, everything worked.  Thanks!
