Web hosting, Shopping Cart

I have found some older posts re this subject but I am hoping for an update.

I need to set up a shopping cart initially for around 15 items. I will also want to write a blog.

I have done some training in ASP and have programmed in VB and VBA for a number of years. In my training I used MySQL which I had no difficulty with. Eventually I would like to learn .net and so I have been looking for a web host that offers both Windows and Linux options.

It has been recommended I use a US web host because this will be my largest market.

I have been researching web hosts that offer free shopping cart and blog-writing software. eg abd

These are the seem to be good prices:
$US50 Web hosting
$60 SSL
$12 Static IP Address
2 Free domain names and then 9.95 after that
Free Shopping cart software
Free Blogging software

How does this sound?

Can you please recommend a shopping cart application given I am a programmer and will probably want to customise it later. The site above offers BV Commerce v5.0 cubecart v4.2.0  osCommerce v2.2rc2a avactis v1.8.1 phpCOIN v1.4.0 Zen Cart v1.3.8  magento v1.2.1

Thanks for your help,

Also please advise on blogging software.

    Hi Neil,

Those prices are about average.  You can get cheaper without losing too much functionality.

As far as software goes, I would recommend against running a separate blog and cart system.  For 15 items or so, I would run WordPress and install the e-commerce module to get cart functionality.  That combines all your needs into one admin panel and will make your life infinitely easier.

Yes, I am happy to install one of the supplied e-commerce modules but which one? Can you suggest a good "supplied" ecommerce module and I will go with that web host.

O ... and which company is cheaper? (Given I want a Windows server)

ZenCart or osCommerce are the most widely supported.  I don't have a specific recommendation on a windows hosting company.  I'm merely observing that you can find cheaper than the above if you look hard for it.  I don't know how important cost is for you...
