window server 2008 installation failed with error code 0x80070070
Hello there,
I am installing a window 2008 server on the window smb machine, installation select to a clean installation. I have more than 200GB disk space.
However, I tried several times installation and each time all stop at the stage 2 expanding files about 50% with this error message
Windows cannot install required files, Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x80070070
Please give me some suggestion to go on. Thanks

I have had this happen before and it ended up being a bad burn of the DVD or a scratched media.
YOu may have to burn the image at a slower speed but I agree with MSCA2003, probably a bad disk. (I'm used to volume licensing so I'm assuming you are using an image)

Yes, I burn the image to DVD and install it, I will try again tomorrow reburning the disc.
Thanks first

I had the same error as MSCA2003 spoke about and it ended up being bad media.

Thanks guys
I have recreate another DVD with slower speed 4x, and still stop around the same 50% expanding files.
I am going to delete any other partition with partition magic and see if it will go through.

Can you give us a break down of your storage situation? What raid, how many drives, what partitions?
ASKER
partition Magic cannot work with servers, can you suggest other tool to use?
I don't mind to reformat the whole disc but the installation disc did not provide me with such choices. Am I missing something? Is there a tool I can run like fdisk on the 2008 installation DVD?
Thanks ahead.

The storage is a 300GB raid 1 with 230GB free. Only one partition a big C: as I can see from the disc management of window 2003.
Thanks
Thanks

I have had a similar issue with Vista not installing and finally I found it was the brand of DVD's I was using. I never had trouble with that brand before but I used a new brand and it worked after creating at least 5 coasters with the old brand. Not promising much but it is a possibility.
So, you are actually upgrading from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 server?

Hello chilids:
I click on the advanced option and found the format option is dimmed out. why is that?
I use another DVD burner create a new DVD and still run into this problem...^_!

What other options are there? You might have to delete and create. It's been awhile since I've seen that screen so I'm drawing a blank on what options are there. But try either the delete or the new button.
ASKER
delete and expand but also dimmed out.
Since I already back up all the data, I am installing a windows2003 standard server and format the whole drive, and hope I can upgrade from there.
will post the result later.

MCSA2003, your comment is true but a little bit late, I finish the 2003 server installation and pop in the 2008 DVD that finish the installation. Guess some hidden partition is block the installation in the first place.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions here.
