Import pictures from Camera

Hello

I have windows 7 and would like to know

how to get the import picture wizard like the one in XP when taking picture from your camera to your PC???

The wizard in XP will come up with all picture  on your camera & show them in a window. It will let you pick (put a tick next to it)  what pictures you want to import from the camera. You then can pick a name to rename all the picture when they are imported. So they would all be called picture_001, picture_002 and so on or what ever you wan tto call it.

On windows 7 the import wizard will just take any picture and put them all in one folder with the same name all at once.

So my questions are :
how to get the import picture wizard like the one in XP when taking picture from your camera to your PC???
Does windows 7 have a program somewhere for this that will not auto start when cameras are connected?

If none of the wizard are there that I want in windows 7 is there another program I can download that is free to use that will do this? It would need to work for any type of camera - So the camera software is not the best for me.

Now,few explanations here:
First,it depends on the mode you transfer your pictures from the camera to
your PC.Some peolpe plug in USB cable from the camera and connect it to USB
on PC (which usually means you have to install camera drivers in order for windows to detect
the camera).
Other method (which I use) is to take out the card from the camera and plug it in
the card reader slot (which means you must have this slots on your PC).
Both methods, when windows detect the event, trigger picture import wizzard.
It is basically the same (like the one in XP) and also functions in the same way like the one
on the XP.It does not however have the pictures with the 'same name' as that is impossible.
If the wizzard does not start you can allways do this manually:
Click the Orb and in the above search box type PIC.
You should get search results with Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
Open it and just locate your pictures.

If you use directly  the camera itself to import the pictures (direct USB connection) then usually
you have some sort of picture manager that comes with camera drivers (like Cannon has...)
As W7 is new system and many of these camera drivers usually do not work, that is why it is
allways better to use the card reader. This way you do not have to worry about camera drivers
and all the crap that comes with it.Just plug in the card (see the pic)

So that is autoplay for the card when it is pluged in the reader?

We are using the USB to camera.

For the screen shot I have taken out the SD card and put it in the laptop and that is what comes up. Is there meant to be a preview screen where I can select what pictures? I don't want to import 100s of pictures I don't need.

Both auto plays and wizards are doing the same thing

Hey

The PIC program is like windows explorer on large icons. How can I make it so they are tickable to import? I have no idea how the program works.

Yes,that is the card input.

There you have it ...
Folder name can be changed the way you want it.
You should get also thumbnail preview to select pictures to import.

I dont get any previews. See the other window (smaller one) - Once I put a name in there it will rename them all to that and add a number to each. It will then grab any picture it can find on the camera and import it.

Am I missing an option somewhere?

To change the settings that are used when importing pictures and videos, click Import settings in the Import Pictures and Videos dialog box.

Thanks but we have missed the point sadly.

I am looking for the tick box option to select what gets imported. As shown in the vedio thats what is happening to me. Where is the option to pick what pictures I want. There is 309 on my camera and I only want 5 or so at one time.

I want to know if there a preview screen to show me picture 1 threw to 309 and then let me select picture 45,66,102,255,300 and then import them selected few.

So far windows 7 has made it harder to import select pictures over XP.

I think you want something like checkboxes next to pictures to import ...
windows 7 does not have that.

To have that function download:
