Hello

I am very confused about how to set up roaming profiles and what it is ?  I have successfully set up folder redirection (my documents) and this works fine.  But I also want to set up roaming profiles as users settings are not transferred over when they log in again?  Please can someone give me a step by step guide ( I am a beginner) on how to set up roaming profiles in server 2008 ?

Thanks very much.

Basically you need to do the following:

1) On your file server configure a share (something like PROFILES) and configure the permissions as per: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc757013(WS.10).aspx

2) In Active Directory Users and Computers under the profile tab for the user enter the profile folder as \\servername\sharename\%username%

When the user next logs in it will create a profile for that user.

Hello Thanks for your reply.....I have done as you have instructed for one user.

1. how can I test if this is working or not ?
2. Do I have to do this manually for each user ?  Or is there a quicker way of doing it ?

Thanks

You can bulk seledt the user accounts in active directory and as lng as you enter the string i posted above it will change t to their username.

The way to test it is to login as that user make a change to the desktop. Logoff then login to a different computer and see if the change is there.
