SQL Browser without Sql Server

Is it possible to set up sqlbrowser.exe without Sql server 2008 ? This may seem a silly question, but I am trying to run SQL Management studio remotely from the SQL Server, and although I have opened Port 1433 in the firewall, it seems the only way I can use 1433 is with sqlbrowser.

Any comments appreciated.

you dont need the sql browser to run management studio. There should be a connection problem.
