Audio CD won't read on my Mac "this disk is not readable by this computer"

I recently moved all my files from a network account to the local account on my Mac OSX. I have never had a problem before with it reading audio CD's but when I tried to play a few of them it gave the error "this disk is not readable by this computer".

It can play DVD's and read data CD's and my virtual PC will read the audio CD. It even plays in another account I created on the Mac, but not this one.

I couldn't find an answer in any support forums, via Google or on Experts Exchange.

It's possible that the media itself is the problem.  What brand of CDs are you writing to?

Or are these pre-recorded CDs?

ASKER

These are audio CD's I bought from a music store - I did not copy them myself. As I say, they play if I create another account and play them there and the CD will also play in my virtual PC.
in the short term, if the computer can mount it as another user then leave the cd in -- it should probably stay mounted as you log back into you account.

if it is a problem only with your account, maybe going into your

/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences

and deleting

com.apple.DiskUtility.plist

and then rebooting will do the trick.
go to /yourusername/library and delete the Caches folder
also go to /library/ and delete the caches folder.

restart the mac and see if that has made any difference.
