Clunking under floorboards

On a first gen Hyundai Santa Fe, 4cyl., front wheel drive, I've begin hearing/feeling a clunking sound whenever going over bumps or turning sharply.  Sounds like something is going bad and the sounds appears to come from under and a little forward of the driver and passenger floorboards.  A small local garage checked the front suspension and said it's normal and that they didn't find anything.  What could be wrong with the car?

Having had the same thing in a different make, it was the front constant velocity joint. Replaced and all was well. I would be suspect of the local garage at this point, because it isn't all the hard to check for.
