Can't connect to OneNote notebook that is shared on Office Live

I have a shared OneNote notebook on Office Live workspace.  Everything worked great when I had Vista on my laptop.  I recently upgraded to Windows 7 with the exact same setup of Office, OneNote, etc.

Now, I can't connect to my shared notebook on officelive.com.  Very frustrating and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.  I have a feeling that it's a windows firewall or security issue in Win7 but don't know what.

Ok, can you navigate to OneNote files by UNC?
Which error message do you get?

Thank you... that's a good question.

On both Vista and Win7 machines I can get to the documents on officelive.com via the URL if I'm already logged into officelive.  If I'm not already logged into officelive.com, I can't.  However, on the Vista machine, if I try to access the document via OneNote (using the same URL) it will go to it and ask me for login credentials and then open it once I've entered those login credentials.

On the Win7 machine, it won't ask for credentials, it just errors out instead.

It brings up a window with the Office Live website and says, "An error has occurred on the server."

I presume you have enabled network discovery and file and print sharing.

You presume correctly.

I think I just discovered that OneNote is using a different live.com login that doesn't have access to officelive.com.  The problem is, I can't figure out how to not have it try to use that login and use the one that does have access rights.

Ok, I solved it!  I appreciate your efforts, though!

It was a credentials issue with Win7.  It was a multi-step process...
1.  I had to go into control panel, credentials, change the 'generic credential' for the officelive.com site.
2.  I had to close everything.
3.  I had to log into the officelive.com site with the credentials I wanted.
4.  I had to open up OneNote while still logged into officelive.com.
5.  Once I had done that, I could open the OneNote notebook that I wanted.
6.  Closed everything and now it works by default.

Yay!!

May next question would be:

Open the credential manager, are they showed as saved there?
Control panel > user accounts > credential manager

I'm glad you solved it. This is going to my knowledgebase.

Yep, it saved them there.  I guess I just learned something about Windows 7.

Now, what do I do about accepting a solution and points?

You should select post which helped you and choose to 'accept solution and award points'.
You can choose your solution, but you can't award points to yourself. Since you've found the solution by yourself, check that solution for further reference.

Best regards,
