Cisco 2950 Gig MTU RX TX

We have customers that need to be able to transmit

and receive jumbo packets - we use Cisco ME3400's to

hand off to the customer CPE.  At this time all

customers that need the jumbo packet capacity are on

fiber rings with only ME3400's deployed connected to

our core 3550's switches.

We have several fiber rings with Cisco 2950 switches

deployed connected to our core 3550 switches. Cisco

2950 switches allow per vlan mtu configuration. If

we set the 2950 vlan mtu to the jumbo size ie 1998

for the customer vlan, still using an ME3400 for

handoff to the customer CPE, will the 2950 gig ports

send and receive the larger MTU's ?

here some info on 2950

Catalyst 2950/2955 Series
You can classify the Catalyst 2950/2955 Series switches into two major groups, where one supports baby giants (up to 1530 bytes), but the other does not. However, this refers to traffic that flows through the switch. Packets destined to the management (VLAN) interface can support only 1500 bytes.

These models of 2950 switches support only 1500 bytes:

These models of 2950/2955 switches support up to 1530 bytes:

"All models of 2955 Series switches

For those switches that support up to 1530 bytes, the default MTU value is 1500. If you want to change this, use the global configuration command that is available for versions of software above 12.1(6)EA2. Here is sample configuration and verification:

2950G(config)#system mtu ?
  <1500-1530>  MTU size in bytes

2950G(config)#system mtu 1530
2950G#show system mtu
System MTU size is 1530 bytes
