ADPREP /forestprep must be run on the Schema Master of a forest and under the credentials of someone in the Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups.

Is this true with the server and credentials you are using?

How to Determine the Schema FSMO Holder in a Forest
Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, click Add, double-click Active Directory Schema, click Close, and then click OK.
Right-click Active Directory Schema in the top left pane, and then click Operations Masters to view the server holding the schema master role.
NOTE: For the Active Directory Schema snap-in to be available, you may have to register the Schmmgmt.dll file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll in the Open box, and then click OK. A message is displayed that states the registration was successful.

Did you do the run--> type regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll?

How many Domain controllers do you have in the forest?

Also I don't think you've told us what happens when you try to run adprep.

That is the default domain.  Either it isn't picking up the current domain or for some reason it is trying to do a new domain instead of joining the current one.  Make sure you selected join existing domain.  If you want you can try to do dcpromo in advanced mode  dcpromo /adv

On my old DC it shows both servers as DC's and my active directory is on the new server. I was thinking it would mirror the names and things so I could move user folders to the new server, but no such luck, and I have no idea what it will do if I shut down the old DC.
