Tool to discover servers

We are often tasked to do 'network discoveries' to find out what servers / workstations / network devices are on a lan.  Does anyone know of a tool that does this without having to install a client on the devices.  It would be ideal if we could get OS processor and disk space info..  Free or paid would be fine.

Thanks!

If you have Dell equipment, you can do it through OpenManage IT Assistant - Management Station.
