forwarding group greyed out in AD delivery options

I've got an odd problem with distribution groups on an SBS2003 box. I've created a distribution group with 2 members, and added that group to a 3rd users delivery options. This seems to work fine, however the emails don't get forwarded. So I went back and checked the delivery options for the 3rd user, and forwarding was still ticked along with keep a copy of the emails in the mailbox, but the actual box where it lists the user / group that forwarding goes to is blank and greyed out.
I've tried recreating the group, recreating it under a different name, testing with different members in it, nothing seems to work. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
