Can a SATA AHCI PCI Card work with a RAID Mobo

Hi There

I have 5 sata ports on a ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard.  1-2 have RAID0 HDD, 3-4 have optical drives, and the 5th is not picking up another HDD in a drive cradle.

The BIOS instructions seems to indicate that if I need to use 5th port I have to set BIOS to AHCI which I cant do because I have RAID running.  I think a BIOS update may provide individually configurable ports but another solution would be a PCI card.

Can I use a PCI SATA controller card for the hot swap SATA cradle and run it using AHCI?  All the controller cards seem to just offer RAID.

Any advice very welcome

    Accepted Solution

There should be PCI SATA cards available without RAID, and those cards should work with most mainboards, but sometimes there could be issues with certain mainboard and card manufacturers. So it usually helps to first check with both manufacturers whether there are any known issues in combination with those products.
