Quickbooks Premier Mgt Wholesale

I have tried everything I can think of, now I need a real wizard to come up with a way to make this happen.

I want to create an item that I can use to apply a discount and reduce inventory of an item.

What I want to do is to sell a mixed case.  The only way I can figure to do it is to sell the individual items contained in a mixed case, line by line, and then when that quantity is achieved, I have an item Mixed Case discount, which appies the discount, but I also need to reduce my shipping carton inventory by 1.

This is a real life problem for me...is there a way to do it?

Thanks

Dear akbiro:

WIthout knowing the details of the composition of a Mixed Case, I can only speculate. However, your current method is acceptable and you just want to be able to track inventory on your shipping cartons, add it to your invoice as with your other "line-by-line" items, except that it has a sale cost of $0.00.

If there is some structure to your Mixed Case, i.e. 3 of A and 1 of B you can use Inventory Assemblies to create larger "parts" of other inventory items. The downside is that you will need to have an assembly for each mixed case variant.

If you can provide some additional details, I might be able to shed a bit more light on this matter.

Actually, you have it pretty much as it is.  I have several mixed cases, but they are fixed by the total number of assembled parts they containc.  For instance, an AA mixed case hold 36 items, an A case holds 24 and so on.  So when a customer purchases 36 assemble parts that makes up an AA case they get a 5% discount, which I provide with a line item mixed case 5% discount.  When I apply this discount, I need to deduct one AA shipping carton from inventory and I can't figure out how to do it without creating a seperate line for that which is hokey.  Thanks
Regardless of the approach, inventory tracking requires a transaction of some sort to affect the inventory counts.

From your reply, I gather that you are already using an Inventory Assembly for your various mixed cases. It should just be a matter of adding a line item for the specific box size applicable to the given case size. From then on, it will automatically be included in your invoice or sales receipt whenever the assembly is used.

However, if I misunderstood you, and this is just a matter of simple quantity discounting, then you will need to add the box item separately for it to be tracked in inventory. It is possible to create a Group with the Discount and the box line item, but this will only work if the discount is a fixed price.

I suspect that this tracking need is the result of having run out of shipping supplies at one time or another; and, you are looking to use QB inventory to periodically check if supplies need to be re-ordered. If this is the case, let me know, and I can offer some other suggestions.

Actually this is exactly what I want to do.

I do have a line that I insert for the Mixed Case A or AA or B ...Mixed Case Price discount and it is a fixed amount...I wanted to reduce the applicable shiping carton from inventory with that entry.  If you can tell me how to do that...FANTASTIC...

Addendum...

At this point, you can added the MixCaseA group item to your invoice and the discount and carton items will automatically be added. The only caveat is that you need to make sure to use the Group instead of the original discount line item.
