Are you configuring the clients to receive their updates using group policy settings?

If so in the windows update configurations in group policy you have the ability to set the client check in interval (default is 22 hrs) as well as the install date and time.

first update your wsus from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C8FA2FD1-72F6-4F19-A1B0-F689DAE14BE6&displaylang=en
then try this command to detect wsus
wuauclt.exe /detectnow
