I need a refresher on SQL transactions.  How and where are table record updates recorded in SQL 2008 or 2005?  I need to get a list of all changes made to a table from a starting date to a final date.  Is it possible to get notifications of individual field changes made in a table?  If so, please give me an insight on how to...

SQL Server doesn't do any kind of auditing by default.  In SQL Server 2005, you would have to have triggers in place to capture the data that you're looking for.  In SQL Server 2008, it's a little easier with a new feature called Change Data Capture (CDC).  You can enable it on the database and then the individual table to capture auditing information.  Also this feature is only available in Enterprise, Developer and Evaluation editions.
