I've had clients using CutePDF Writer (free) (http://www.cutepdf.com) for years, until they got Office 2007 and can use the Save as PDF or XPS Add-in.

Cute PDF is by far the easiest solution.

Alternatively, you could open the file in  OpenOffice (or use OpenOffice to begin with) and save it to PDF from there.

But if M$ has an add in already, that's probably the solution that will most suit your needs.  I will say that once you get used to printing to PDF you'll want to use it on other progrems (email, websites, etc) as well.

If you want another program for printing to PDF then Bullzip is also a great alternative.
