Hello geocleojohn,

1. Please find attached document and first try to reregister all mentioned DLL then restart Server after restart execute "vssadmin list writers" command to check the state of VSS writers.

2. If  issue still persist check the server is updated with hotfix in Add\Remove Programs if not then install the mentioned hotfixes on server.

Note: It is recommended to reboot the server after every patch installation.

HI

The above has not resolved the issue.

I did notice that theerror occurs whenever my backup software begins (BackupAssist) at its scheduled time.

I have now contacted BackupAssist to see if they can also help.

It seems that the backup Image is successfully completed.

Still want to know why the error messages.

Thanks
John
Any update from BackupAssist?
Yes,  but it's still not working.  Haven't heard from them since they sent me this solution:

Hi John,

Thanks for contacting us regarding BackupAssist. My name is Sally and I am one of the members of the support team.

Based on my research, there are many reasons will relate to this issue.
I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

1. Open ''My computer''. Right-click every partition and click ''Properties''.
In the ''Shadow copies'' tab, check the scheduled shadow copy task. Have you scheduled any shadow copy task? If yes, please try to:

a. Right click C drive in My Computer and click properties
b. In the Shadow Copies tab, please click volumes and click Disable to disable the feature.

Note: you may need to select multiple times for each volume (partitions, such as C drive, D drive and so on) and perform disable operation.

d. Click OK
e. Open the Task Scheduler from control panel, and then remove any remaining shadow copy tasks. Shadow copy tasks appear similar to "VSS
VolumeGUID " or "ShadowCopyVolume VolumeGUID ".

Note: The name of the scheduled task is the same as the name of the Volume Shadow Copy service task resource that is associated with the scheduled
task.

If you want to re-enable the correct VSS settings on the drive, please continue the following steps.

f. Open the properties page of C (and other drive) drive in My Computer again.

g. Enable the Volume Shadow Copy for each volume by clicking Enable button.

2 . Please do clean boot on SBS and then test this issue:
To clean boot the problematic computer, please use the steps below:

a. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks). Click OK.
b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select the Selective Startup button.

c. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below Selective Startup.

d. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be marked as non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.

g. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

This doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

Many Thanks

John
Please confirm the startup type of  Volume shadow copy service and MS Software Shadow Copy Provider service should be manual.
Hi

Yes, they are both manual.

Thanks
will be re-installing win 2998 R2.
Ok, Are you sure this is operating system issue?
Yes,  I am also having issues installing new programs.  I keep getting 1402 errors.
