File share as seen on TV

Yes this is probably a very strange question but it is one that is bugging me.

I'm sure you have seen on shows such as NCIS where one person will have a file (picture, document, whatever) and he wants to show a co-worker on in his team and he will send it to his colleague's desktop where it will auto-open.

We've looked at a couple of options but none fit the bill.

Anyone have any suggestions?  or is this just tvlandism at its best.

thanks
Mike

I could make a Custom Application to do that So I would Say It is Custom Programming.

But i doubt there is any commercial applications out there that do that being that the functionality is very specific.

Well,  we are trying to do this without going through the tubes... Just use LAN.
We could write a script/program to watch a network share and open whatever is in there.
I just feel this should be something simple to do...   Wave might be able to later on but again that does throught he net and we would like to keep this local.
Thanks for you help so far...
