recovery of bad hard drive - reads not formated.

I have a HDD that crashed and will not boot. It shows that the hard drive is not formated when you boot from an XP install CD. I can not see it at all in disk management in XP. I have tried using a recovery program, Active Partition Recovery, and it can not pick up the disk as valid.

Anyone have any ideas? I realize that most likely it is fried, but here is hoping.

Try getdataback from www.runtime.org - free demo of what it could recover, but costs to actually do it. Good tho...

well, it happens with me once,
Try to format the drive, then use one of the programs (of recovery) to perform Format Recovery
