Hi,

I have been approached to develop a tradesman (plumbers, roofers etc) web site like http://www.ratedpeople.com. From first glance the web site will have to have a database backend to populate user drop downs when they are filtering through masses of data to get the trade that they are looking for. The web site will also have to have functionality that sends a text message to all the relevant traders in a customers area so they can be made aware of potential work. Lastly the web site will also have to have some sort of payment system so the user can ultimately pay for the work that they have chosen to be carried out.

I'm not sure where to start for the development of this site. I am an asp.net developer and I have looked into the likes of http://dinnernow.net but with this application still being in its test phase I hit too many brick walls.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Martin.

Hi,

I would recommend installing the MS Web PI (platform installer) and then browse through the web gallery and see if anything matches your requirements. You will not find something that covers all your needs but it will get you started and there are several with database backends. Sending SMS (text) / payments are the tricky parts.

Web PI: http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx

Web Gallery: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/
