i had  ZCS 6.0.4 tar file for Ubuntu 8.04lts, i had configured split-dns(local dns) now when i install zimbra by ./install.sh i get the following error

below is my dns config files

################################################################################################################
vi /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1       localhost
192.168.15.2   server1.tm.local  server1

        file "/etc/bind/zones/tm.local.db";
        };

zone "15.168.192.in-addr.arpa" {

above is my local dns (server1.tm.local), i checked by nslookup server1.tm.local

root@server1:~# nslookup server1.tm.local

Address:      192.168.15.2#53

Right at the end where it says "Create Domain: [server1.tm.local]"  type "tm.local". I'm assuming you want your email addresses like "user@tm.local" and not "user@server1.tm.local" right? If you want "server1" part of the domain name, you'll need to add an MX record for it in your /etc/bind/zones/tm.local.db file:

server1      IN      MX      10    server1.tm.local.

with zimbra you may still have issues sending/receiving your mail if you just change to tm.local

Change the following and try installing again:
-----------------------------------------------------------
vi /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain  localhost
192.168.15.2   server1.tm.local  server1
_______________________________________

vi /etc/bind/zones/tm.local.db

$TTL 604800
@  IN SOA server1.tm.local. root.tm.local. (
                             090108        ;serial
                             604800             ;refresh
                             86400              ;retry
                             2419200            ;expire
                             604800 )           ;Negative Cache TTL
;
@               IN      NS      server1
                   IN      MX     10 server1
                   IN      A       192.168.15.2
server1      IN      A        192.168.15.2
____________________________________________________

now when you get to the part of the install that says:
DNS ERROR resolving MX for server1.tm.local
It is suggested that the domain name have an MX record configured in DNS
Change domain name? [Yes]
Create domain: [server1.tm.local]

enter tm.local for create domain.

This should solve the issue and stop you from having dns issues after install; zimbra is very picky how dns should be correctly setup.

Thank You,
Dru
