MySql ODBC driver "installs" but does not show in driver list in windows 7

I have a fairly clean new Windows 7 laptop and am trying to install the MySQL ODBC 3.51.27 32bit connector.

It appears to install OK but it does not show up in the ODBC driver list. I've used the msi and zip versions with the same results.  The only external driver listed under Drivers is Sql Server.

I've also tried the 5.1 version of the ODBC driver and disabling UAC during the install attempts and the results were the same.

I have a local copy of MySql running on my PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using Windows 7 x64 ?
otherwise native ODBC is in %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe
x64 in odbcad32.exe under %WINDIR%\SYSWOW64
Also make sure you run the installer 'as administrator' ...

Wow, it just didn't occur to me to try the 64 bit version. I assumd that 64bit Windows 7 was not typical. Since I bought this PC the day after Christmas w/4 gig of mem and 500 gig drive for a extra low price, I thought for sure they had to cut corners somewhere.

You're the man!  It's working now ...
