Dear All,

In windows 2008, new roles appear which they are:

I would like to ask about the following:

For AD CS:
1- There are a product called PKI, does the AD CS replace the PKI?
2- what is the current version of PKI and does there a release for this product in future?

1- there is a product called RMS, does the AD RMS replace the RMS product?
2- What is the current version of RMS and does there a release of this product in future?

    AD CS is the new PKI IN server 2008 environment and support algorithm suite B certificates

    "Roles" are major enterprise application roles that the server may host in your enterprise.  They are all available within 2008 server.

    I'm not as familiar with RMS' history, but the AD CS has been implemented as an installation option since Windows 2000 as Certificate Services, with a major evolution in Windows 2003, and a less dramatic change but still continued growth 2008 where it was renamed AD CS.  R2 versions of 2003 & 2008 both included minor updates to this product.  It is used in a large number of companies of all sizes for issuing your own digital certificates for internal use (e.g. for SSL to secure internal web pages, email encryption, smartcard logon, workstation and domain controller validation, etc.).

    AD CS should not be installed on your DC if possible, it should reside preferably on a dedicated member server.  You can see my articles if you would like to know more about details on setting it up, in addition to the links already posted.
