Can anyone shed some light on the following error? I have logging enabled as suggested and I am getting a lot of these since.

Should I be worried?

This is an SMTP protocol error log for virtual server ID 1, connection #86. The remote host "24.32.181.67", responded to the SMTP command "xexch50" with "504 Need to authenticate first ". The full command sent was "XEXCH50 2088 2 ". This will probably cause the connection to fail. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

assuming that all the "remote host" are not part of your organization then I wouldn't worry about it

Of course I am assuming that you are not experiencing any issues with your mail flow
