Windows 7 not recognizing LG lcd monitor
Hello, a customer of mine has installed Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.
He has this problem and I wasn't able to help him: his LG M237W lcd monitor isn't recognized by the new OS. There were no problems with Windows XP.
This cause all resolutions to be screwed up, the monitor is 16:9 but only 4:3 resolutions are available. The monitor's optimum resolution would be 1920x1080, but Windows sees the top resolution as 1600x1200...
When I tried to install the driver downloaded from LG site, Windows said the best driver available is already installed.
The monitor doesn't even get recognized as a PnP monitor.
The video card is nvidia, and even when I tried to change resolutions from nvidia control panel or the monitor tab in advanced video settings, videogames still wouldn't work at the monitor's best resolution.
How can this be solved?

It looks like a video card driver issue more than a monitor issue. Did you update your nvidia to the Windows 7 drivers?
ASKER
Yes, it was updated to the latest drivers but the problem was there with Microsoft preinstalled drivers too.
Do you have a chance to try that monitor in another Windows 7 computer? Or can you try another monitor on your customer's computer? This way we can find if the computer or the monitor has problems.
ASKER
Yes I have tried the monitor on 2 W7 computers and the problem is there. It's a problem between the monitor and W7, no problem at all with Xp.
Can you try uninstalling all monitor related drivers and entries from device manager and driver manager in win7 and try re-installing the LG driver?
ASKER
Ok, I'll try that and report back.
ASKER
Even after installing the monitor driver, the problem is still there. I think he's about to go back to Xp actually.
ASKER
He has decided not to give up, still looking for a solution to this...

The problem was fixed, sorry I had forgotten about this question. Must be old age creeping in. I think it shouldn't be deleted. My fix can be accepted as solution.
