Crystal Reports XI ODBC Drivers

What is the difference between creating an ODBC connection and directly connecting to Oracle Server?
I usually connect to Oracle Server and give the Database details and run the report locally and server side also.  I think ODBC driver is called CR_xxxx (Data Direct Drivers)

If you are just running through Crysal on your machine there is not much difference.  Basically just in the way you connect.

If you plan to let others (without Crystal installed) run the reports through an application then you will need to install different drivers.  I am not familiar with Oracle but on a project I did with MS SQL Server we initially had the report set up to use a direct connectiion but that required loading the SQL client onto each users machine (over 500) with the associated cost.  We changed to OLE Crystal connectiion and there was no additional cost and the database drivers were installed when the application was installed.

We export the report to  Business Objects Infoview. So, do I need this ODBC drivers?
