Use the GroupWise Monitor that runs on a Windows XP or Server 2000/2003.  You will find the installation for it under admin\utilities\monitor (or perhaps admin\monitor) in your software distribution directory (where you expanded the download file or did your setup of the system.

Install it, use the IP address of the box you're installing onto and take the default port 8200.  When it is done installing, launch and let it discover your various agents.

Next go to the File menu (it might be configuration, it is on the far left) and select Notifications where you will put in the IP or DNS of your GWIA and a list of people (commas between each name) of who will get alerts.  Notice in the middle of that dialog a check box where "server down" is selected.  Server down means agent down as I recall.  Add at least a name and indicate your GWIA or other SMTP sending agent and then test to make sure that it is working.  Consider using a different SMTP sending agent (perhaps an additional GWIA or a SendMail box in case your GWIA is down) or at least sending to your yahoo or other account in case it is your post office that is down.  That way you're guaranteed to get the alert messages.

You can also configure a bunch of thresholds for each of the agents in this same dialog box.

Hope that helps...
