Hi,

I am trialing Websense hosted mail security and would like to be able to send some mails directly to the hosted service to make sure they are sent to my server and pass through the firewall etc. The server is live and I need to test without changing MX records.

The required MX record is custxxx-1.in.mailcontrol.com, how can I simulate this? mail.mydomain.com points directly to the server.

Thanks.

You can send a mail using telnet to test it... although it may bounce as being spam!

On your mail server, open up a cmd prompt window and type exactly as below.  Be careful with typing as you cannot use backspace to correct typos...

telnet custxxx-1.in.mailcontrol.com 25
helo
mail from: user@test.com
rcpt to: user@yourdomain.com
data
hello testing 123
.

If there are any problems, you will see the error messages straight away.

Thanks, I didnt think to use telnet. it did flag it as spam though! A quick whitelist addition and tests performed successfully. Thanks again, J.
