Distributing Access 2003 Application with Runtime???

I have a question that I've spent a considerable amount of time searching the net to no avail.  I'm trying to find the Developer's Extensions for Access 2003.  From what I can tell thus far ... these come as a part of Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003.  What package is VSTO included with??  I ran across what appears to be just Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003 and I have Office 2003 Professional installed on a development machine.  Will the tools that's on that CD run with Office 2003 or will I still need a copy of Visual Studio.NET??

Thanks,

ET

Hi ET
If you have the same Office Professional Edition 2003 CD as I have, you will find the run-time in the folder FILES\ACCRT.
Good luck!

I guess I'm trying to find the tools that will do what's shown below.  In other words, compile the Access 2003 application to a .exe where it can be distributed to someone who doesn't have Access installed.  I think that's a part of the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003, correct??

1.) Distribute royalty-free Access 2003 solutions: Distribute Microsoft Access solutions to users without Access 2003 - including solutions that use Microsoft Jet database or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine.

1.) Make development and distribution of Access solutions easier than ever: The Package Wizard using Windows Installer technology help developers create professional setup routines for Access solutions. The Property Scanner Add-In and the Custom Startup Wizard help reduce development time and testing obstacles to produce higher-quality solutions.

Looks like LSMConsulting answered this exact issue on the question below.

Thanks for you input GrahamMadeno
Hi ET
You don't actually need to purchase anything.  To distribute royalty-free applications, all you need is the Access run-time, which as I said is available on your CD.
The Packaging Wizard is rubbish!  If you want a good reliable way to create installation packages, you can use Inno Setup which can be downloaded FREE from here: http://www.jrsoftware.org/isdl.php

My cd is named Office Professional Edition 2003 and has a caveat about 'For distribution with a new product...'

Under the Files folder the folders as per the jpg - no ACCRT.  What file or files should I be looking for

files.jpg
GRayL ...  My Office Professional Edition 2003 cd's file structure looks exactly like what's in your picture ... No ACCRT on there.

GrahamMadeno  ... thanks for the info but I really was not looking for an additional third party Packagin/Installation Wizard ... and I've previously used Inno a while back and it does makes a nice installation package.  Basically I ran across the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003 for what seems to be a good price for what was included with it.  I wanted to use it to package and install sample, test and or proof of purchase Access applications when sending them to prospects especially since the Access Runtime is already included with it.  The Packaging Wizard may not be as advanced as some of the others like Inno but it's really just a basic installation of sample applications in most cases ... nothing real fancy to be honest.  Again, LSMConsulting answered the original question this post was based on in that ...  No, I will not need to purchase Visual Studio.Net in order to run the Visual Sudio Tools as long as Office 2003 Professional is installed.

Thanks,

ET

ET:  I am still trying to figure out how you 'ran across the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003 for what seems to be a good price'.  Any clues??
GRayL ...  Someone had it listed up on Amazon and if I remember correctly they were asking under $200.00.   You can check Amazon or I think I ran into it by doing a Google search for Access 2003 Developer Extensions then "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003" showed up under Amazon.com.

Got it finally, thanks.

Graham:  Do you recall when you purchased?
GRayL ...  Ok, glad you found it.  I had sent a question to the seller but no response yet.  I don't need it right now as it's just something I was going to add to my development environment because I'm trying to get one of my large clients to convert their Access 2000 applications to Access 2003 mainly for development purposes and a lot of new clients don't really care for Access 2007.  It seems like a good price and I will check around as I'm sure there will be others available.  My caution when buying stuff on the net is when I try to make contact with the seller and no response in a couple of days is generally not a good sign --- "Buy With Caution".

Thanks Graham ... and no problem on the objection ... :-).

Looks like you have "Developer's" edition of Office 2003 which is what I originally thought I was buying when I purchased mine to be honest ... oh well.

Actually the comments & link you posted in your last post are very useful and pretty much helped answer another question that I was working on which was "moving an application out of Access".  I have a client that runs a combination of Office 97, 2000, 2003 and 2007 and they have no plans on going to one Office platform ...  lots of development problems, etc. with the various references on the various versions ... so now their thinking is let's move the Access apps into an environment that's not so "Office Version Dependent", etc.   Easier said than done in that they are not developers and don't really understand the complexity of the various Forms/Sub-Forms and Reports/Sub-Reports that have been developed in their apps with Access which works very well.  From what I can tell, having to re-create those outside Access will be a major task but it's on the table for discussion.

Again, thanks ... for the information I will award you some points and close out this question.

ET

Thanks, although not the exact answer to the original question, the information here helped resolve another question I was working on.

The answer to the original question is ... No, I will not need to purchase Visual Studio.Net in order to run the Visual Sudio Tools as long as Office 2003 Professional is installed.

ET

GRayL ... Yes, that's the same one I ran across a couple of days ago ... I figure for $149.00 it's probably worth it.

Hi ET
Thanks for the points!  Just glad to help :-)
To be honest, I can't remember where these discs came from or when (it's a 2-CD set with BCM for Outlook on the second disc), but it definitely says "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003" both on the case and the discs.  The part number on the main CD is X09-48746.
Possibly it's a country thing (I am in New Zealand) or perhaps it was a "not for resale" copy I received for contributing to the beta programme.
I'm glad you found Tony's site useful - he has a mine of information there.
Good luck!
