lookup data in sql in sharepoint list

so I would like to look up a list of stock symbols to choose from in one field in a sharepoint list. then I would like to auto populate the company name in the company field.

this data exists in sql. how do I accomplish this?

ok - so I created a page library and a page that connects and displays the data I want with the help of the first article - thank you very much!!

so now what I want to do is either have a drop down (or if possible type ahead?) field on a list where I select/type the symbol and the company name gets filled in automatically.

How do I point that field to this data source in sharepoint (or sharepoint designer) and then have the company name filled in automatically?

sorry for the delay - got really side tracked...

so after actually thinking about it... I don't even have to have the user see that field when creating a new form. They should just type in the symbol and once they save it the company name should automatically populated based on the symbol they enter.

I am going to start again from the begining to reacquant myself with this whole process and your comments... would appreciate you sticking with me and this post... thanks
If you just want it set after the submission, then just use an event handler.
